Cervical spine (neck) pain
- Overload – long hours at a computer, a phone in your hand or stress overload the neck and shoulder muscles.
- Ergonomics – a well-set monitor and chair and short breaks during the day take a lot of strain off your neck.
- Mobilisation – gently mobilising the cervical and thoracic spine gives your neck back its freedom of movement.
Typical symptoms:
- a stiff neck, ‘I can’t turn my head’,
- tight upper trapezius muscles and pain between the shoulder blades,
- neck pain after sleeping in an awkward position,
- tingling or pins and needles into the arm and fingers.
How I work
- Initial assessment – we talk about where and when it hurts, what makes it worse and how you move during the day.
- Diagnosis – by looking, movement and touch.
- Manual therapy – manual release of muscle chains in their wider context.
- Targeted exercises – targeted exercise for strength and long-term relief.
